ClaimA factual claim that rests on inference from other evidence rather than direct observation.constitutionImportance 0.30, from 0 to 1 · minor: narrow or largely settled, cheap to get right. Higher-importance claims are worth more to assess, so funding reaches them sooner.constitution

The Randall-Sundrum II braneworld is holographically dual to four-dimensional gravity coupled to a strongly coupled conformal field theory with a cutoff

argumentDerivation from cutoff AdS/CFTThis argument, if it holds, bears in favour of the claim.constitution

The RS2 spacetime is a portion of five-dimensional anti-de Sitter space truncated by the brane at finite radius. Because the AdS/CFT correspondence relates gravity in anti-de Sitter space to a boundary conformal field theory, and because truncating the space at finite radius corresponds to an ultraviolet cutoff in that field theory, the bulk description translates into a four-dimensional cutoff CFT; and given that four-dimensional Newtonian gravity is recovered on the brane at long distances, the dual theory must also contain dynamical four-dimensional gravity, arising from the induced boundary terms at the cutoff surface.

argumentNewton's-law correction checkThis argument, if it holds, bears in favour of the claim.constitution

Because the leading correction to Newton's law computed classically in the five-dimensional bulk matches the one-loop graviton correction from conformal field theory matter in four dimensions, the two descriptions agree on a nontrivial subleading observable, which is what the proposed duality predicts.

Provenance

Where this claim has been said, linked to its canonical form.

The AdS/CFT correspondence [1] adapted to the Randall-Sundrum braneworld model RS2 [2] predicts that classical bulk physics in $AdS_5$ is dual to a particular cut-off CFT (namely $\mathcal{N}=4$ SU(N) SYM in the planar limit) coupled to gravity living on the brane.

Introduction of a paper on quantum effects in brane-localized black holes, invoking the duality as the established framework for translating classical bulk physics into quantum CFT effects on the brane.

In the language of modified AdS/CFT (called cutoff AdS/CFT [9]) the brane becomes the boundary of AdS space and its position fixes the cutoff scale $\delta = L$.

The paper explains the holographic interpretation of RS2: an infrared cutoff of the bulk corresponds to an ultraviolet cutoff in the dual CFT, with the brane position fixing the cutoff, and uses this dual description throughout.

coupling of brane fields to the CFT can be responsible for the known ρ2 corrections in the Friedmann equation. In addition, at the same densities when these corrections become relevant, higher curvature terms induced by the CFT start to affect the 4d gravity theory.

A study of RS2 cosmology that works within the dual description of RS2 as 4d gravity coupled to a cutoff CFT, using the CFT picture to explain corrections to the Friedmann equation.
