Despite repeated dedicated searches, no X-ray pulsations have been found from the central compact object XMMU J173203.3-344518 in the supernova remnant HESS J1731-347. XMM-Newton timing observations probed periods down to 0.2 milliseconds and yielded only upper limits of roughly 8 to 10 percent on the pulsed fraction, and Suzaku and Chandra observations likewise revealed no periodic signal. An early candidate periodicity near one second, reported in 2010, could not be confirmed in subsequent data and was withdrawn. The non-detection is an upper limit rather than proof that the star does not pulse: pulsations with a low pulsed fraction, or an unfavorable viewing geometry, could still evade detection. As a statement about what has been observed, however, it is uncontested in the literature. It underpins the treatment of the source's emission as coming from the whole stellar surface, which supports the carbon-atmosphere description of its spectrum and, through that, the widely discussed low mass and radius estimate for this object. A future detection of pulsations would overturn the claim and force substantial revision of that modeling chain.
