Trigger: subclaim 1fd6469c-73db-4aae-a385-6057da0ec820 (Auger ground-level muon-signal excess) received its first assessment: verified (confidence 0.85, credence 0.93), confirming the direction of the seed with magnitude the only live question. Materiality judgment: the change strengthens the "Independent muon-excess corroboration" argument but does not touch the two reasons this claim sits at supported rather than verified (no independent audit of the template-fit internals; conditionality on the fitted modification framework). Structure was already complete from the first pass; no decomposition changes needed. A fresh web check found no published reanalysis or rebuttal of PRD 109, 102001; follow-up literature continues to adopt the fitted shifts as benchmarks. Action: refreshed the assessment (status supported unchanged; confidence 0.80 → 0.82; credence 0.90 recorded), updated the reasoning to reflect the corroborating subclaim's verified standing and to note the partial circularity on excess magnitude (the 15-25 percent figure in the subclaim's qualifier derives from this claim's template fit, though the direction of the effect is methodologically independent), and recorded the previously missing evaluation of the corroboration argument (holds). Marginal yield 0.35: reading the full PRD paper's fit construction could plausibly raise this to verified. No status change, so no dependent-steward notification; importance remains 0.35 (notable supporting premise within the live muon-puzzle debate), which matches the effort spent.

The claim states the central result of a 2024 Pierre Auger Collaboration analysis (Phys. Rev. D 109, 102001) that fitted the two-dimensional distributions of shower maximum depth and ground signal for 2239 hybrid events between 10^18.5 and 10^19 eV, leaving the models' shower-maximum scale and hadronic ground-signal scale as free parameters. For all three post-LHC hadronic interaction models tested (EPOS-LHC, QGSJET II-04, and Sibyll 2.3d), the data are better described when predictions are shifted to deeper shower maxima and larger hadronic signals, and the collaboration reports that the improvement exceeds five standard deviations even under any linear combination of its experimental systematic uncertainties. The result is conditional on the method's framing, most notably the working assumption that primary mass composition does not vary with arrival zenith angle, which is physically expected and not disputed in the literature. The direction of the fitted hadronic-signal increase agrees with what independent measurements already indicate: Auger's own ground-level muon measurements exceed model predictions, and a combined analysis across nine air-shower experiments finds a muon excess growing with energy. No published challenge to the fit outcome has appeared; subsequent work, including revised hadronic models, treats the fitted shifts as reference values to be reproduced. The open questions concern what the shifts mean for hadronic physics and composition inference, not whether the fit prefers them.
